Living and working downtown for the past 2.5 years, I sometimes feel like I’ve eaten everywhere! One place I hadn’t tried was Stars Sandwich Market. I’ve walked by numerous times but just wasn’t sure. That all changed today..
Nestled right across the way from City Market is Stars Sandwich Market. I sure love City Market, but was excited to try something new. It is easily accessible from any direction downtown.
Stars Sandwich Market is more than just sandwiches. They offer salads, wraps, noodles, and the best cookies ever. The best part about Stars is that you don’t have to wait in line to order. Everything is pre-made for a quick grab and go concept. Beats the heck out of waiting in that gargantuan line for Subway during a big convention.. no thank you!! I was lucky enough to attend a media day to try a few samples of the sandwiches. I loved the hummus and black bean sandwich, but decided to go with the chicken tarragon sandwich.
Tender oven-roasted chicken breast with a fresh tarragon mayonnaise, tomato and alfalfa sprouts on sourdough bread. The sprouts gave it the perfect crunch. I was super impressed that none of stars sandwiches tasted like they had been wrapped up or sitting out. They were all perfectly fresh. Nothing is worse than getting a soggy sandwich…yuck!
I also had the pleasure of trying a chocolate chip cookie. Ya’ll.. these are on a whole other level! The break apart and watch the chocolate chips melt kind of cookies. Surely I didn’t need a cookie, but I loved every single bite.
Stars Sandwich Market is under new ownership as of January 2017. The new owner, Evan Moss, has many years of experience in the restaurant industry.
The decor has a bit of a vintage-y vibe. It seems to get a bad rep in their yelp reviews, but I’m not really sure why. Personally, I love purple. If you go to a deli in New York City, you’re not going to see brand spanking new chairs and an interior. You’re there to eat, not to look at the walls.
Also – did you know the coffee shop at the Westin sells their sandwiches? How cool is that?
If you are looking for a new sandwich spot, definitely give Stars Sandwich Market a go.
