Real Social – West Fork Whiskey

Real Social – West Fork Whiskey

Wednesday..easing our way through the week, right? I was pleasantly surprised when a friend of mine, Megan, reached out about a Whiskey tasting on Mass Ave. I spent plenty of time in Kentucky (Lexington) during my college years (GO CATS!!!!), so needless to say – this girl loves her whiskey.

Real Social

What is Real Social? Real Social is a reoccurring event every Wednesday at Stella. This series focuses on organizations and entrepreneurs in the area. I believe they are somewhat involved in the food and beverage industry.. but I’ve only been one, so it may not be limited to that. Neal Brown offers a free space and appetizers for the first 20 people to attend. The goal of the event is to get people to share their ideas in person – as opposed to online. Let’s be honest.. I spend all day on a computer for my day job. I love an opportunity to get out and enjoy real interaction! It’s great.

West Fork Whiskey

This will be your go-to Indiana Whiskey brand. They are 100% Hoosier made from grain to glass. The corn is grown on a farm in Lebanon.  I mean, hello.. what’s Indiana known for? Corn! There’s more than corn in Indiana.. now there’s West Fork Whiskey. David McIntyre and Blake Jones (West Fork Whiskey founders) delivered a fabulous, educational tasting for the 8/16 Real Social. Both friends came together when they realized that there isn’t a nationally known whiskey distiller in the state of Indiana. Did you know a ton of our grain is outsourced to other whiskey distillers? What about Indiana?

The Colonel, Double Down and 2-hour Delay

The Colonel is WFW’s first bourbon. I can’t wait to see what other bourbons are in the works.

Double down is the aged corn whiskey used in bourbon barrels.

2-hour Delay is made from 100% corn. It’s CLEAR! This one was my favorite. It was the sweetest, with notes of butterscotch and caramels. Man, I wish I had this for my snow days back at IU. Can I get a two hour delay from work in the winter?

Tasting Room

I’m most excited to visit their tasting room. They are currently in the construction phase – using R+B Architects (another Indiana company.. woohoo!!!). It will be right next to Cannon Ball Brewing Company on E. 16th Street. They’ve been operating out of a warehouse at 86th and Zionsville Rd. They cannot wait to get the tasting room open and get people in to enjoy some delicious whiskey! I believe they are slated to open late Fall of 2017.

Where to Buy

First off, congratulations to West Fork Whiskey for not only making it into local restaurants and bars.. but the world’s largest retailer – Walmart, is a West Fork Whiskey carrier as well! You can also find it at Big Red, Crown Liquors, Elite Liquors, and more here.

Thank you

Major thanks to Neal Brown for hosting and the gentlemen of West Fork Whiskey for coming out. These kids are more than just passionate about their product. You can tell they live it, breathe it, and believe in it. I’m thrilled to see what they have in store next. Cheers!

Which West Fork Whiskey is your favorite? I want to know!
