Icon Lounge is my new go-to sushi spot downtown. Formally known as Buddha Lounge, they have switched owners and are turning things up a notch by highlighting their food offerings.
Surprisingly, sushi is hard to come by downtown. I’m a big fan of the temaki house, but they are only open Monday – Friday. Mikado is another option. Personally, I think they are overpriced for what you’re getting. FortyFive Degrees is great, but a bit of a hike if you’re looking for something in the immediate downtown area. Introducing Icon Lounge..
I’m not going to lie, you can’t even tell Icon is open most days. I definitely consider it more than a night club that serves food.. but perhaps a sign or two would help draw more of a crowd in. Don’t let this deter you. The food is worth it. I hate to call it a hole in the wall, because the interior is gorgeous.
Love the crown molding,. chandeliers, and the ceiling. I’ve never been here at night, but I can imagine that it’s a cool atmosphere. Such a cool event space.. now onto the goods.
I had the pleasure of dining with several other Indy Foodie influencers. I’ve linked their instagrams below – be sure to check them out! We started out with a shrimp appetizer. We all LOVED the shrimp martini. The shrimp was pounded down, fried and drizzled with a special sauce. Basically, a better version of bang bang shrimp from Bone Fish Grill. Topped with avocado pieces and sesame seeds, this dish didn’t last long. This appetizer is a MUST try.
The icon veggie spring rolls are a fantastic addition as well. They are served on a delicious bed of mango salsa.
We were delighted when they brought out all of the sushi options. They don’t skimp on their sushi rolls, that’s for sure. The offer many options such as shrimp tempura, a scallop roll, four treasure roll, etc. They even have a veggie vegan roll which is a yummy option for all you vegan followers. They are moderately priced at $10-$18 a roll.
Sushi not your thing? Icon has $2 tacos on Taco Tuesday. $2 – beef, $2 – Chicken or Fish and $4 shrimp. I’ve heard they have a regular who comes a few times a week for their fish sandwich. Me? I had to try the Icon chicken and waffles.
Yes, that’s a cup of butter you see. The waffles were delectable. My only recommendation would be for Icon to serve the chicken and waffles with boneless wings (as stated on the menu). You can totally work around normal chicken wings, but it does provide for extra sticky fingers. Finga lickin’ good..
Half Price Sushi – Wednesdays & Saturdays
Tacos – Tuesdays
$4 Margaritas – Tuesdays
Other Indy Foodie Influencer Attendees:
A big thank you to Icon Lounge for hosting us. Our server was an absolute peach. I’m very excited to see Icon grow and become not only a hot spot for night life, but also a go-to eatery downtown Indy. Congratulations to the new owners and best wishes for a successful future!
