Abuelo’s Sizzling February Special

Abuelo’s Sizzling February Special

It’s the month of L-O-V-E! Time to start planning something special for your significant other. Don’t stress – Abuelo’s is making it easier than ever to plan a romantic dinner this year.

Abuelo’s Muy Romantica Menu

Leave the stress of preparing dinner to someone else! Abuelo’s offers fajitas-for-two plus a shared sweet dessert. Abuelo’s is also offering a limited-time-only Strawberry Platinum Corazon Margarita! Who can say no to that? I never, ever turn down tex-mex. Or a margarita.

Indianapolis Abuelo’s Experience

We started off with their special Strawberry Margaritas. As a food blogger, I go all emoji heart eyes when the food looks pretty. Who knew that cutting a strawberry into heart-shaped strawberries would make all the difference?

I consider myself a margarita connoisseur. I typically turn away from ordering flavored margaritas. The strawberry flavoring was crisp and refreshing. It was more on the refreshing size rather than overly sweet. If you’re looking to switch up your normal lime ordering, I highly recommend this option.

Fajitas for Two

The Valentine’s Fajitas for Two special includes a choice of different flavors of Abuelo’s fabulous fajitas: Marinated Steak or Chicken, Vegetarian Fajitas or Abuelo’s favorite, Bacon-Wrapped Stuffed Shrimp. All are served with traditional peppers and onions, along with beans, homemade guacamole, sour cream, shredded cheeses and hand pressed corn tortillas. The corn tortillas are 100% corn and hand pressed in-house! You know the way straight to a Hoosier’s heart… corn, baby.

We decided with the chicken. Most of my readers know, I don’t eat beef or pork. I was excited when the dish arrived because it actually looked healthy! The chicken is marinated prior to cooking. The chicken was cooked perfectly. It came out sizzling and steaming ready to be devoured.

The portion size was perfect for two people. We even had leftovers to take home. I like that they provided the sizes on a separate plate for each person. Don’t go eating all my guacamole!

You get to choose between the award-winning Abuelo’s Flan, or the Sopapillas. Flan is a custard dish. A flan is an open, rimmed, pastry or sponge base, containing a sweet custard filling. Sopapillas are a kind of fried pastry with a cinnamon topping. The GM shared that the flan is actually the corporate chef’s family recipe! Can you imagine, your great grandmother’s recipe being served nationwide? I thought that was incredible. We could not decide between the two, and lucky they brought out both. We ended up too full to eat it at the restaurant, so we took it home for later. I must say, I had a few bites of flan for breakfast today (shhh!) and it was delectable.

We were very impressed with the GM, Steve Hable. From the moment we sat down, he promptly greeted us with a friendly smile. He walked us through the special with ease and confidence.  Mr. Hable has worked for Abuelo’s for many years. He shared his experience with the brand. Did you know Abuelo’s recently revamped their menu? They’ve added new items over the past couple of months. Everything is made from scratch in-house. There are several neighboring restaurants that are a similar price point. Personally, I’m much more interested in eating somewhere that doesn’t prepare the food well in advance only to throw it on a pan to heat it up.

It was very refreshing to get to know someone in the restaurant industry who truly has a passion for their work. He made us feel like we knew him forever. Like a friend, that we would want to come back and visit weekly. If you get a chance to speak to Mr. Hable at Abuelo’s.. I promise that you’ll enjoy the conversation. He is much more than a manager who wants to know more than how your meal was.

Our server, Jesse, was fantastic as well! Our drinks and meals arrived very quickly. I must say – the kitchen was quick!

For Indy locals – we are lucky! We have two Abuelo’s. One is located in Carmel and the other on the northwest side of Indianapolis:

Abuelo’s Traders Point

Thank you

Many thanks to Abuelo’s for inviting us to try out their February special. We both had a wonderful experience and are planning our return soon!
